Janis Ian in Concert
OuttaSight Productions is pleased to announce that Janis Ian will be making performing a concert in Ithaca on Friday, May 7 at 8:00 pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church as part of a tour that will take her across the country and abroad, including the United Kingdom and Japan. Tickets for the show are $22.50 in advance and $25.00 at the door and are available at The Clinton House Ticket Center, 116 North Cayuga Street, by phone at 607.273.4497 or online at www.outtasightevents.com. With its blend of classic girl-group sound and keening protest, Society's Child> nailed Janis Ian's place in the rock record books at age 15. But adolescence is no place to stop and Ian has kept working and growing steadily, writing and singing songs of deep feeling and meaning, some of them hits for recording artists of the highest stature. Janis has won two Grammies, one for her million-selling album Between the Lines (which included the hit At Seventeen) and a total of nine nominations, including one for 1993's Breaking Silence, the record that announced her as a lesbian. With two new records released in the past year, she's now back on the road for a major tour, selling out many of the venues where she's appearing. Rolling Stone Magazine tells its readers that Janis Ian is, "a superb singer, songwriter, and guitarist." And Puremusic says, "Greatness is a precious and admirable quality--Janis Ian fits the bill and in many ways." Among the diverse talents who have covered her songs are Roberta Flack, Cher, jazz-master Stan Getz, Vanilla Fudge, country star Glen Campell, Bette Midler, Joan Baez and blues great Etta James. Writing and performing, Janis has made music for film and TV, and collaborated with the likes of Odetta, Phoebe Snow and, in a Grammy-nominated duet, with Mel Torme. She can also lay claim to be the first musical guest on the inaugural broadcast of Saturday Night Live. Tickets Available at
