The Cornell Folk Song Club welcomes innovative Canadian singer-songwriter Garnet Rogers to Cornell's Martha Van Rensselaer Auditorium on April 5. Unfortunately, Archie Fisher, celebrated traditional Scots folk singer, will not be joining Rogers for this concert as originally planned. He could not get a permit from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Old friends Rogers and Fisher will be touring across Canada, but Ithaca will miss their magical pairing. That's no reason to skip the concert: Garnet Rogers does a stunning one-man show. His powerful baritone and passionate work with a variety of instruments creatively meld old and new sounds, and his story songs are marked by wit, sensitivity, and commitment to ordinary people living with extraordinary courage, sorrow, and joy in a large landscape. The Boston Globe calls Rogers "A brilliant songwriter, one of the major talents of our time," and Sing Out! dubs him "The greatest male interpreter and vocalist on the contemporary folk scene." Greg Brown, who tours with Garnet Rogers, declares "I have found strength and comfort in his songs. This is good and rich and big music."

Starting down a musical path at age 18 as a back-up musician for his legendary older brother, Garnet Rogers established his own career following Stan's untimely death 20 years ago. With both charisma and substance, he has won praise from critics and adoration from fans ever since. Taking advantage of his physical presence (he's nearly six and a half feet tall) and voice and character to match, Rogers commands the stage--whether coffeehouse or Lincoln Center-- like few other performers today. Rogers' 10 CDs are on Red House Records and Snow Goose Songs.

Those who already have tickets for the originally scheduled Fisher/Rogers double bill may either attend the concert and receive a $3 refund at the door, or return their tickets to the club at PO Box 481 Ithaca NY 14851 for a full refund.

Tickets are available at Ithaca Guitar Works, Greenstar Co-op, Colophon Books (formerly Borealis Bookstore), Small World Music, Bound for Glory, and, if any are left, at the door. You may also order tickets online and by mail from CFSC, PO Box 481, Ithaca, NY 14851.
