Come hear an unpretentious wizard, described as a paradoxical combination of incandescent intellect and unstudied magic. Andrew Calhoun is as masterful as he is original. He will mystify and delight you.

Interspersing his own compositions with spiritual songs of liberation, the poetry of Robert Frost and Mary Oliver, ancient Scots ballads which he translated from medieval dialect, songs from such friends as Dave Carter, Annie Gallup, and Kate MacLeod, and riveting fingerpicking, he weaves his concerts into an intricate, lyrical web.

Few can rival the power of his imagery and the warmth of his baritone. With enough songs to his credit to fill 10 albums, he has traveled many paths. He always has something to say and is still exploring. "Andrew Calhoun tells the truth, there is no better songwriter alive," said Dave Carter. His songs may be silly, impressionistic, or filled with wry wit. Some tell stories, some pointedly autobiographical. More than a few are dark or frankly challenging. He can write a beautiful love song.

This Chicagoan began performing professionally in his teens, influenced by W.B. Yeats, Ernie Banks, Joseph Conrad, Bob Dylan, and the religious traditions of his Jewish mother and Christian father. In addition to performing world-round and recording, Andrew Calhoun has mentored many musicians. He founded Waterbug Records, a cooperative label that has launched the careers of many folk luminaries, including Dar Williams, Lui Collins, and Cosy Sheridan. Please join the Cornell Folk Song Society in welcoming this enchanting, thought-provoking musician.

Tickets are available at Ludgate Farm Market, Ithaca Guitar Works, Greenstar Co-op, Small World Music, Bound for Glory, and, if any are left, at the door. You may also order tickets online and by mail: SASE to CFSC, PO Box 481, Ithaca, NY 14851.
