Le Vent du Nord, formed in 2002, has taken the world of traditional dance and song by glorious storm, earning Canada's JUNO, the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance Best Artist award, and other accolades.
Simon Beaudry, Nicolas Boulerice, Benoit Bourque, and Olivier Demers meld four rich voices, hurdy gurdy, accordions, fiddle, piano, guitars, bodhran, mandolin, jaw harp, bones, and foot percussion with passion, precision, and, above all, playfulness. Over the years, LVDN members have developed their skills in such groups as Eritage, Matapat, Ad vielle que pourra, La Bottine Souriante, and MontcorbieR. And they've stretched into jazz, Senegalese, and Indonesian music.
Benoit Bourque, whose talents as a stepdancer and dance teacher are matchless and delightful, will call a lively mix of contras and traditional dances from Canada and Brittany. Dancing with a Gallic twist and incredible high-energy music, from age-old to original, played with finesse and joy!
This remarkable event is sponsored by Hands Four Dancers of Ithaca, with help from the International Folk Dancers at Cornell and technical support from the Cornell Folk Song Society. And you can get a second dose of LVDN on Sunday night at Bound for Glory!
