Kate McDonnell will be concluding the Cornell Folk Song Society spring music series. Kate is a charming and witty folk stylist who is a shrewd observer of the social and political times. She has an expressive soprano voice that has been called, "polished and subtle." Blending modern folk-pop with Appalachian traditional, she accompanies herself with a distinctive, self-taught, upside-down- and-backwards guitar technique. Tom Paxton has described Kate's music as full of, "grace, intelligence, warmth and more."

Kate will likely be featuring songs from her recent CD \CITE{Where the Mangoes Are} that has been called a, "memorable embodiment of the contemporary folk/singer-songwriter genre at its finest." It was featured on an impressive number of Folk-DJ lists of Best Albums of 2005.

Some of you may be interested to know that civic-minded Kate McDonnell appears in the 2006 Naked Folk Calendar, one of 27 celebrated singer-songwriters and other musicians, including (but you may want to skip those months) Tanglefoot and Utah Phillips. She and they bare all for Philadelphia photographer Jayne Toohey to raise money to supplement health insurance costs for musicians.

Tickets are available at Ludgate Farm Market, Ithaca Guitar Works, Greenstar Co-op, Small World Music, Colophon Books, and, if any are left, at the door. You may also order tickets online and by mail: SASE to CFSC, PO Box 481, Ithaca, NY 14851.
