Singer/Songwriter KRIS DELMHORST's Western New York Tour, April 2001

"What sets Delmhorst apart is a knack for finding fresh phrases where others churn out clichés. [Appetite] is pure pleasure: smart lyrics, earnest vocals, assured guitar work." -- Cape Cod Times, 12/00

"Intelligent without being overly cute or clever. Delmhorst seems to understand that the secret to great writing is to take the personal and make it universal." -- Performing Songwriter, 5/99

"When she hits, it's gonna be big." -- Marilyn Rae Beyer, WUMB 91.9 FM Boston

Kris Delmhorst has been commanding more and more national attention since arriving in Boston in 1996. Her combination of true musicianship and consistently compelling writing has earned her the respect of her fellow artists and the enthusiastic support of audiences from coast to coast. In a town full of rising stars on the performing songwriter circuit, Kris Delmhorst's extensive musical collaborations set her apart. Her skills and reputation have made her a top choice for many New England performers in need of expert vocal harmonies or string accompaniment; she has recorded vocal, fiddle and cello tracks on numerous artists' albums and has accompanied many of them on stage, including Catie Curtis, Jennifer Kimball, Peter Mulvey, Jess Klein, Lori McKenna and Pamela Means.

On stage, Kris relates to her audience without pretense and plays with infectious joy, revealing an exceptional sense of personal grounding. Having made an art of weaving together her many talents and callings, Kris stands out in the range, sustenance and overall integrity of her professional activities. As a child in Brooklyn, Kris worked toward a career as a concert cellist. Later she studied photography and worked as an elementary school teacher. Eventually, she became a writer, and then a farmer. The passion in Kris's life is reflected in her music; her rhythmic guitar style and warm, effortless voice deliver songs that are lyrically memorable and emotionally true, weaving their spell around anyone in earshot.

Kris's first album, appetite, was produced by Alan Williams (Knots and Crosses, Dar Williams, Patty Larkin) and features guest appearances from Patty Larkin, Jennifer Kimball, Catie Curtis, bassist Mike Rivard (Paula Cole), and drummer Billy Conway (Morphine). In 2000, Kris received a Boston Music Award nomination for Best Female Singer/Songwriter, following up two 1999 nominations for Outstanding New Contemporary Folk Act and Outstanding Debut Folk Album (appetite). Kris has just finished recording an eagerly awaited second album slated for independent release in the summer of 2001.
