Dar Williams

The rumors are true. Dar Williams is coming to town. Dar Williams has been called, "maybe the finest folk songwriter of her generation." In just six years she has established an amazing presence in today's music world. Not confined by the inattention many new-folk and contemporary singer-songwriters recieve, Dar us covered in Rolling Stone and People Magazine and appears on MTV.

Being a rising phenomenon isn't always an easy thing to maintain, but success appears not to have hurt Dar Williams. Her most recent album, The Green World, has won as much or more critical acclaim as her highly regarded debut album, The Honesty Room. Since her early days on the coffeehouse folk circuit in the mid 90s, she has explored different musical paths, has toured as part of Lilith Fair and has combined talents with Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky to form the group Cry Cry Cry. Able to express different moods and experiences and even daring to integrate some rock elements in her song writing, Dar both explores and celebrates as she entertains. Some of her early songs, most memorably When I Was a Boy, The Babysitter's Here, and The Christians And The Pagans, are story-songs rich in metaphor and character study that end with a special twist or resolution. Dar is still a masterful storyteller with a dry sense of humor, but the musical philosophy of her more recent songs explore some deeper realms of the mystery of life. Opening for Dar Williams will be singer-songwriter Anne Weiss, whose styles incorporate new folk, blues and gospel. Dar calls Anne an inspiration. "She's funny, she's insightful, and the power of her performances brings people together in the best way." Come out and join the DarHead generation. The concert is one in a series of benefit concerts that Williams is undertaking to benefit local radio stations and Free Speech Radio. She is donating 100% of the profits of this concert to Bound for Glory, the Cornell Folk Song Club, and Free Speech Radio.
