Mike Agranoff Mike Agranoff may be best known around the folk community as a reciter of modern ballads and most infamously as a purveyor of some of the awfullest parodies around. The Ballad of Jake and 10-Ton Molly was only the first of a dozen stories in verse that he has been known to tell or re-tell. Parodies can be dangerous things, and Mike is one of the few with the talent to amuse a crowd without punishing it.

You should also know that Mike is more than just recitations and parodies. He is a master of eclectic song collecting. His repertoire is as varied as it is vast. Traditional or contemporary, he has a knack for finding just the right song or tune to match his audience and balance a set. He evens sings a few songs of his own. Because of his outrageous humor and just plain silliness, you don't expect him to be contemplative, so when he serves up one of his more serious songs, your emotions can be caught off-guard. Knowing the Ithaca crowd, Mike is sure to present us with lots of songs with choruses. His concerts, however, are also filled with many instrumentals that show off his intricate fingerstyle arrangements on the guitar and his abilities on concertina and piano (among other instruments).

It is hard to mistake Mike Agranoff in a crowd. He is tall and skinny, with long flowing red hair and beard only partially hidden under his reddish Greek fisherman's hat with a light that glows red in the dark. A veteran of countless folk festivals, he is a gentleman from New Jersey and proud of it. Mike has been to Ithaca a few times in the last decade, but this will be his first appearance on the Cornell Folk Song Club stage. Please join us.
